Oahu Night Scuba Diving in Hawaii

Scuba Diving in Oahu

Hawaii night diving is extremely cool. Not only do the nocturnal animals come out to play, your sense of adventure is heighten to a new level that only a cool night dive in Oahu can bring. Night diving in Honolulu or night diving in Hawaii is pretty popular with dives starting around 6pm. We typically do dives like the Yo-257, Corsair plane wreck or Sea Tiger shipwreck. I personally love theses dives and you can guarantee scuba diving in Oahu on one of theses shipwrecks will take your breath away for both night scuba diving and of course day dives.

Night diving Oahu should only be done with divers who are very comfortable with being underwater. With it being dark, there are potential dangers in the water so being aware of the area is a must. Knowing you gear is a must. For example it would not be a great idea to borrow a friends BCD and use it for the first time at night before getting a thorough briefing of how it works. Having up-to-date gear for scuba in Hawaii is a must and should not be overlooked. How do you see underwater? To be honest, moonlight makes a huge difference on the dives. You can get great light on a full moon and actually turn off your flashlight and sample the dive. I always tell our scuba dive customers to go ahead and turn off the light, see what it is like to be a part of the underwater world at night. Very cool experience indeed. Staying with the group is the safe way to complete a night scuba diving in Honolulu. For reasons of safely and just plain fun you need a buddy. Of course that is what we're there for, to be your buddy!

You know those little Star Wars light saber swords with the green color ? This is what the chem lights look like. We'll just use a plastic tie to secure it on, snap it and the glowing will start. Take one small "pocket" light and then your normal light. We can provide this to you at no extra charge, but please don't lose it. There will be a $100 extra charge, just kidding.

Hawaii night diving on the Corsair is exciting and both challenging. We do this dive weekly and can schedule you for this Oahu scuba dive adventure anytime. Located in the Maunalua Bay area approximately 1.5 miles out the Corsair lays in 108 feet of crystal clear Pacific Ocean water. Getting out to the Corsair plane wreck is easy. Leaving from the Koko Marina or Hawaii kai shopping center in Hawaii kai takes just 15 minutes to get there. The ride can be rough due to the area of where the Corsair is at. This particular area is not as sheltered like the wrecks in Oahu.

Night diving in Oahu should only be done with divers who are very comfortable with being underwater. With it being dark, there are potential dangers in the water, therefore being aware of the hidden dangers and knowing you gear is a must. For example it would not be a great idea to borrow scuba gear that you are not familiar with before doing a night dive. Having up-to-date gear for scuba in Hawaii is a must and should not be overlooked. We are more than happy to rent our gear and certainly go over with you how the gear works.

How do you see the Corsair wreck? To be honest, moonlight makes a huge difference on the dives. You can get great light on a full moon and actually turn off your flashlight and safely do the dive. But a nice LED flash light is a must. But we use GPS to guide us to the mooring line that is attached to the Corsair wreck itself. Making this fairly easy. The hard part is once we jump in to get the line you can be just a few feet away and not find it. YIKES!

Bioluminescence is amazing out here. I always tell our scuba dive customers to go ahead and turn off the light, and wave your hands in the water. While slicing and waving your hands in the water theses tiny animals react with a chemical reaction. Dinoflagellates, single-cell algae, often numbering many hundreds per liter, again it is a very cool experience.
